Cavaliers edge Blue Jays
In Baltimore, Virginia’s Garrett Billings assisted with a pair of fourth-quarter goals to lift the top-ranked Cavaliers to a 16-15 victory over No. Johns Hopkins.
Virginia (10-0) trailed by a goal at 15-14 entering the final quarter after allowing a goal with seven seconds left in the third period.
“It was everything you can hope for in a college game,“ Virginia coach Dom Starsia said. “You can look at a game a like that, and I am sure the sure the Hopkins people would feel the same way, and we could have tightened up on defense.
“We could have done some things to give Adam [Ghitelman] a little bit more help in the cage. But we fought the whole time. Falling behind in the second half that way, and then coming back and getting on top of that, I have to say that was trying to say that was a heck of a game.“
Billings, who finished with four goals and four assists, dominated in the final period as he scored goals with 12:09 and 10:01 remaining.
Johns Hopkins (3-3), which won 12 of the game’s 34 faceoffs, was unable to score in the final period.
For the Cavaliers, Danny Glading scored two goals and added three assists.
Virginia returns to action on Saturday at home against Maryland at noon.
