Desch makes a name for herself
Just a junior, L.P. Desch earned a share of Group AA/A player of the year honors and can now add Central Virginia player of the year to an already impressive set of awards.
In Orange, it’s a family affair
Stephen and Tricia Grabeel piloted Orange to the Group AA semifinals, and a 14-5-1 overall record and are The Daily Progress’ All Central Virginia field hockey coaches of the year.

Orange, Western bow out
Monroe scored on a short corner with six minutes and 56 seconds in the first overtime when senior Phoebe Willis connected with sophomore Taylor Herold. The goal gave Monroe the 2-1 win and a berth in the title contest today.

Desch keys Warriors’ win
Mere seconds after mishandling a pass on a set play off a short corner, the junior drove into the teeth of the Orange defense, spun and connected on a reverse flick to put Western up just seconds before the end of the first half. The Warriors, who are the defending state champions, went on to win 2-0 over the Hornets, picking up the Region II title and a bye in next week’s Group A/AA state tournament.

Western Albemarle blanks Monticello
It was inevitable. Twenty-two minutes after pounding at Monticello’s defense, Western Albemarle finally saw a shot hit home. Yet with the Mustangs unable to retaliate to, or even break out of, the barrage on their defense, this, and a similar goal halfway into the second half was all the Warriors would need to clinch a 2-0 win.

FIELD HOCKEY: Western’s Lynn is CVa’s best
As the captain of the Western Albemarle field hockey team, much was expected of Jordan Lynn. The senior mid-center more than delivered in her last season with the team, leading the Warriors to an 18-1-1 record on the way to the 2007 Group AA state championship.
