Manilla defeated Orange County’s Rob Johnson, 6-1, 6-3, to repeat as Jefferson District singles championship.

“Joey’s been hurt since the beginning of the season,” said Western coach Charles Ix. “He didn’t come back until a couple of weeks ago.  He’s in good form. He played very well.”

Warriors stop Spartans for Jefferson title

Western Albemarle avenged a regular-season loss to Salem, beating the Spartans 5-3 to claim the Jefferson District title.

“We lost to them by one in the regular season in a downpour,” said Western coach Brad Haws, “so that was a nice one to come back and get.”

Christophe Drapanas and Owen Wangensteen had two goals apiece for Western. Goalkeeper Cody Peters had seven saves.

Western visits Broad Run on Monday for the first round of the Region II tournament.
