PREPS PLUS: FUMA’s Bodine bound for UNC

Scottsville native Russell Bodine, a rising senior at Fork Union Military Academy, verbally committed to play football for the University of North Carolina on Monday.

Bodine, who committed on an unofficial visit to UNC, is ranked as the No. 6 center in the country by Rivals.com. He also had offers from several other ACC schools, including Virginia, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, Boston College and Duke.

Covenant picks Little to coach boys lacrosse team

The Covenant School has chosen Rich Little as its new boys lacrosse coach following the departure of Dave Breslin.

Little has been a head coach at Blue Ridge, Wakefield and Virginia Episcopal and also spent time on Breslin’s staff at Covenant.

Breslin recently accepted a position at the Wesleyan School in Norcross, Ga.

Albemarle graduate Ripley earns All-America honors

Logan Ripley, a former Albemarle goalkeeper, was one of three North Carolina women’s lacrosse players to earn first-team All-America honors from the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association.

Teammates Jenn Russell and Amber Falcone joined Ripley, a junior, on the first team. Ripley led the ACC in goals allowed per game and led the Tar Heels to the NCAA championship game, where they lost to Northwestern.

Tandem Friends grad Meriwether wraps up Guilford career

Former Tandem Friends midfielder Matt Meriwether recently finished out his lacrosse career at Guilford College in Greensboro, N.C.

Meriwether played in 14 games this season, starting two, and scored five goals. He had two goals and two ground balls against Oneonta State on Feb. 28.

Over the course of his career, Meriwether scored 19 goals and added 10 assists in 55 games.
