In Virginia Beach, after trailing by 10 points entering the fourth quarter, Covenant completed a furious rally to knock off Cape Henry Collegiate 58-55 in the first round of the VIS Division II tournament Tuesday night.

The Eagles (15-9) outscored Cape Henry 24-11 in the final stanza to advance to earn a road tilt against Atlantic Shores Christian today at 6 p.m.

With the game tied at 55 with 6.6 seconds remaining, Sam Dale found Brian Clarry, who took the ball hard to the rim and converted the layup after getting fouled. The three-point play gave Covenant the victory.

“It was the same out of bounds play that we ran against Carlisle and Brian missed the 3-pointer,” said Covenant coach Ben D’Alessandro. “This time they ran out hard on him — he took one big dribble and got to the rim.”

Dale led the way for the Eagles with 23 points. Clarry scored 11 and knocked down two 3-pointers.
