Barons lock up top playoff seed

In St. George, Blue Ridge clinched the No. 1 seed in the VISAA Division II playoffs and home-field advantage throughout the postseason with a 40-22 non-conference victory over Atlantic Shores Christian on Saturday afternoon.

Barons quarterback Speedy McCauley ran for three touchdowns and passed for two more. Khalif Dandy had a rushing touchdown and an interception.

McCauley’s touchdown passes went to A.J. Williams and Roderick Holloway.

Mike Casey ran for 102 yards for Blue Ridge (6-2), which plays host to

St. Anne’s-Belfield on Saturday in a game that could determine the Old Dominion Football Conference championship.

Parker, Blue Devils stop Cadets

In Fork Union, Andre Parker ran for 174 yards and a touchdown as Fork Union held off Benedictine in a 22-15 non-conference victory over Benedictine.

Parker ripped off a 65-yard touchdown run in the first quarter as the Blue Devils jumped out to a 14-3 lead. Benedictine rallied in the second half behind two touchdowns — one rushing, one passing — from quarterback David Geary, but Fork Union (6-3) held on for the victory.

Benedictine’s Drew Petrohovich had six catches for 102 yards and a touchdown.
