Boone, Terrell key Madison win

QUICKSBURG — Madison County didn’t get off to a good start Friday night at Stonewall Jackson, but the Mountaineers cruised to a 26-13 victory and remained unbeaten.

Devon Boone rushed for two touchdowns and Logan Terrell racked up 151 yards total offense to lead Madison County (5-0).

Stonewall Jackson began the contest by attacking the Mountaineers with an impressive running game. Generals running back Pete Pendleton got his team on the board with 2:11 left in the first quarter when he scored on a 1-yard touchdown run. Stonewall Jackson then made it a 13-0 lead early in the second quarter when John-Michael Pirtle completed a 27-yard touchdown pass to Ethan Hirsh.

From that point on, though, it was all Mountaineers. Boone capped off a Madison scoring drive with a 14-yard run and Andre Parker booted the point after touchdown to make it a 13-7 lead with 8:14 remaining in the second quarter. Madison tied the game four minutes later when quarterback Will Taylor hit Terrell for a 65-yard touchdown pass.

Boone gave Madison the lead for good with 8:06 left in the third when he drove in for a one-yard touchdown run and the kick by Parker made it 20-13. The Mountaineers added one more score with 10:02 remaining in the game when Taylor hit Ryan Banks on a 40-yard touchdown pass.

Taylor continued his steady command of the Madison offense, completing 7 of 11 passes for 164 yards and two touchdowns. Pirtle completed 4 of 8 passes for the Generals for 82 yards, including a 37-yard completion to his leading receiver Derrik Turner.

After getting off to a hot start Pendleton was limited to 54 yards rushing on 22 carries by the Madison defense.

Terrell finished the game with 63 yards rushing on 14 carries to go along with 88 yards and a touchdown on two receptions. Boone carried 14 times for 92 yards and a pair of touchdowns to lead Madison.
