Madison tops Monroe

STANARDSVILLE — Madison County football coach Stuart Dean knows that the reward for beating William Monroe is a full year of bragging rights.
“For the community in Madison and the community in Greene, it’s a game that people talk about for 364 days,” Dean said.
The good news for Dean is that the bragging rights are his after his Mountaineers team ran over the Greene Dragons 28-0 on the road.
“Our defense did an outstanding job,” Dean said. “On offense we just pounded and pounded the ball. The line did a good job tonight.”
For the next 364 days the Madison community can talk about Logan Terrell and Devon Boone who accounted for three of the four Mountaineer touchdowns.
Terrell finished the night with 110 yards on 17 carries while Boone amassed 128 yards on 22 attempts.
“We’re the dynamic duo,” Terrell said. “That’s how it is, we’re a team and we work together.”
The Mountaineers used Terrell on the interior rushing and used Boone’s speed rushing him the on the edges.
“We can do big things with this team,” Boone said. “If we keep getting better we could go far.”
The William Monroe offense put its defense in a tight spot early in the game by giving Madison fantastic field possession for it’s first three possessions.
“I thought our defense held up pretty well early in the game,” said Dragons coach Tom Hoffman. “We just had a lot of trouble getting things going on offense.”
Hoffman hopes his team can rebound against Eastern View next week.
“We’ve got some pretty resilient kids,” Hoffman said. “Hopefully they’ll be able to shake this off and bounce back.”
Monroe receiver Terrence Johnson was the one bright spot for Monroe. The senior pulled down five catches for 61 yards.
Madison quarterback Will Taylor suffered a separated shoulder on his non-throwing arm.
“It’s frustrating for him because he separated his other shoulder last year,” Dean said.
