MADISON — Madison County ran multiple wildcat formations, three halfback passes and even a hook and ladder. But it was the simplest of plays that proved the difference for the Mountaineers.

In the third overtime against Fluvanna, Logan Terrell took a handoff from Dustin Kirby and ran three yards for the 26-20 win Friday night.

Fluvanna opened the door for the Mountaineers in the third extra period, and Madison County walked right through it.

Ryan Foster’s 4th-and-15 attempt fell short for Fluvanna, just out of the reach of the outstretched hands of D.J. Burton. Foster finished 7 for 20 for 86 yards and two interceptions.

The Mountaineers were lead by Jerod Williams, who finished the night with 67 yards on 10 attempts and a touchdown. Dustin Kirby went 4 for 11 for 55 yards for Madison County.

In the first two overtimes, a pair of passes from Ryan Foster to YaYa Anderson gave Fluvanna its first two scores in extra time. Anderson outleaped his defender both times to score in the back right corner of the end zone.

The Mountaineers responded with a 1-yard score by Logan Terrell in the first overtime, and then Williams ran over Fluco defender after Fluco defender for a 10-yard score in the second overtime.

Stephen Dixon’s leg provided the scoring for Madison County in regulation, as the sophomore tied the game at 6 with a 27-yard field goal, splitting the uprights with 1:09 left in the game.

Dixon had the only points of the first half for either team on a 30-yard kick.

Fluvanna owned the third quarter, with its opening drive lasting 7:24. It ended with a 4-yard score by T.J. Dudley, giving the Flucos a 6-3 lead.
