STANARDSVILLE — It went from DragonFest for William Monroe to TouchdownFest for Madison County quickly on Friday night.

Senior Logan Terrell led the Mountaineers with 126 yards on nine attempts and four touchdowns in Madison County’s 57-7 win.

“I think it was a team effort because we ran and threw the ball up front, we got across the line of scrimmage and were playing on their side of the ball every play,” said Mountaineers coach Stuart Dean.

Terrell, who was sidelined with flu-like symptoms for most of the week, didn’t have a carry in the second half.

“My line, they really stepped up tonight man they made a lot of big holes,” Terrell said. “My receivers had good blocks — it was really all on them.”

Chris Fincham made noise on the Madison County defensive unit with three interceptions on the night, the last of which he returned 25 yards for a score. Antonio Childress added a 66-yard interception return for a touchdown midway through the fourth quarter. The Mountaineers picked off Dragon quarterback Mitchell Morris four times and backup Jordan Gentry once.

“[Fincham] is in the right spot of where we tell him to be,” Dean said. “He’s there, he’s aggressive and makes the play, it was a heck of a job.”

The Mountaineers’ defense didn’t allow a score in the second half.

“We came out in the second half and took it to the level of where we needed to be and shut it down on the first couple series,” Dean said. “But you’ve got to come to play every game.”

The Mountaineers’ running game racked up 234 yards on the night.

William Monroe was led by Markees Towles, who finished with 69 yards on nine attempts and the Dragons’ only score of the night. Morris was 7 for 15 for 94 yards.
