Barons prevail over Seahawks
After the break, the Barons woke up. The offense chipped away at the deficit in the third quarter, and the defense made big plays to erase it in the fourth. Speedy McCauley’s 37-yard touchdown pass to A.J. Williams was the final blow as Blue Ridge won 32-30 to advance to this weekend’s state final.

Western captures crown
The Western Albemarle senior got the result she was looking for, collecting 12 kills and 18 digs as the Warriors defeated Fluvanna County 3-1 (25-21, 25-19, 22-25, 25-23) in the district championship on the Flying Flucos’ home court.
A ‘Speedy’ misnomer
Despite the nickname, no one will confuse McCauley with Michael Vick or Vince Young. What Smith did get in his new quarterback was an accomplished pocket passer who, with assists from some other former Patriots, has helped the Barons capture the top seed in the VISAA Division II playoffs.
