Albemarle takes battle of Patriots
At the conclusion of every national anthem at an Albemarle lacrosse game, just after you hear ‘Home of the…’ the players shout ‘Patriots!’ On Friday night, they faced Patrick Henry’s Patriots for the right to play for the Northwest Region title and proved why they roar at opposing teams to let them know whose house it is.
AHS boys win region crown
Jordan Hill won two events, placed in two others and ran the anchor leg of Albemarle’s winning 4x400-meter relay team as the Patriots claimed the Northwest Region boys track title at UVa’s Lannigan Field on Friday.

Albemarle trumps Battlefield
After a two-week layoff, Albemarle’s girls’ lacrosse team used a quick start and leadership from its seniors to roll past visiting Battlefield in the Northwest Region quarterfinals, 19-4.
Patriots shut down Jackets
“We started to really be conscious of how far out we were extending,” said Albemarle coach Pat McAdams. “We really protected the front of the goal and made some real timely slides.”

Warriors sneak into JD final
Western Albemarle’s Aaron Myers was exhausted, but with two minutes left in a fourth overtime, the sophomore mustered one more run, flying towards Fluvanna County’s goal.
Lions shake off early troubles
If Louisa County was fazed by its first inning, no one showed it. The Lions shook off a rocky start, got some timely hits and rode the arm of Gunnar Carroll to a Jefferson District semifinal win over Orange County Tuesday night.
Madison County falls in Bull Run semifinals
Madison County swept George Mason in two regular-season meetings on the diamond. The Mustangs got revenge Tuesday night. Mason combined 15 strikeouts from ace pitcher Mike Straub and timely hitting from the top half of the lineup to advance to the Bull Run District championship game with a 4-1 win over the Mountaineers.
Hornets, Flucos reach Jefferson final
Whenever Micalah Sacre enters the circle for the Orange County softball team, the Hornets have a great chance to win. On Tuesday evening, Sacre lead her team not just in the circle, but at the plate as well, in a 2-0 win over William Monroe in the Jefferson District semifinals.

Junior midfielder James Wittwer scored in the second half to lift the Albemarle boys soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Massaponax in the Commonwealth District semifinals on Tuesday night.

St. Anne’s tops Collegiate in semifinals
Often in important games, it is the senior leaders who will step up and make the big plays. And for St. Anne’s-Belfield in its VISAA Division I semifinal game against Collegiate on Friday, that player was Jack Thomasson.
Patriots stand atop Commonwealth
In the Commonwealth District championship, Albemarle was in a dogfight most for the first three quarters against North Stafford, but the Patriots dominated the latter stages of the game to pull away 15-8 on Friday night.
Calm Fluvanna cruises past Monroe
After falling behind in the first inning against William Monroe in the first round of the Jefferson District baseball tournament Friday night, Fluvanna County looked to be in danger of crashing out of the postseason. Instead, the Flying Flucos stayed calm and scored at least one run in each of the next five innings to advance to the semifinals with an 8-3 victory.
Covenant headed to Division II final
In Goochland, Emily Klein and Amy Inouye scored second-half goals to lift the Covenant girls soccer team into the VIS Division II final with a 2-0 semifinal victory over Wakefield.
