Albemarle got at least one hit from everyone in the lineup and rallied from a five-run deficit in the final inning to knock off Halifax 12-10 and move on to the Northwest Region semifinals on Wednesday.

Western Albemarle’s core of seniors got them to the Region II final, but the Warriors’ underclassmen put them over the top.

Mason combined 15 strikeouts from ace pitcher Mike Straub and timely hitting from the top half of the lineup to advance to the Bull Run District championship game with a 4-1 win over the Mountaineers.

Whenever Micalah Sacre enters the circle for the Orange County softball team, the Hornets have a great chance to win. On Tuesday evening, Sacre lead her team not just in the circle, but at the plate as well, in a 2-0 win over William Monroe in the Jefferson District semifinals.

Junior midfielder James Wittwer scored in the second half to lift the Albemarle boys soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Massaponax in the Commonwealth District semifinals on Tuesday night.

Jordan Haws set the table for Wheeler on four of her eight goals as Western blew past Potomac Falls for a 19-4 victory in the Region II semifinals Monday night.

It was only fitting that the biggest game of the year for the St. Anne’s-Belfield boys lacrosse team came to an end in thrilling fashion.

Who says nice guys finish last? Covenant boys lacrosse coach Dave Breslin is regarded as one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet throughout the Central Virginia lacrosse community.

In Newport News, Covenant’s three seniors went out on a high note on Saturday, claiming the school’s first state boys tennis championship with an 8-1 victory over Hampton Roads Academy in the VISAA Division II final.

Often in important games, it is the senior leaders who will step up and make the big plays. And for St. Anne’s-Belfield in its VISAA Division I semifinal game against Collegiate on Friday, that player was Jack Thomasson.

In the Commonwealth District championship, Albemarle was in a dogfight most for the first three quarters against North Stafford, but the Patriots dominated the latter stages of the game to pull away 15-8 on Friday night.

After falling behind in the first inning against William Monroe in the first round of the Jefferson District baseball tournament Friday night, Fluvanna County looked to be in danger of crashing out of the postseason. Instead, the Flying Flucos stayed calm and scored at least one run in each of the next five innings to advance to the semifinals with an 8-3 victory.

In Goochland, Emily Klein and Amy Inouye scored second-half goals to lift the Covenant girls soccer team into the VIS Division II final with a 2-0 semifinal victory over Wakefield.

Western Albemarle’s tennis program added two more trophies to its case on Thursday in the Jefferson District singles championships.
