Junior All-Star underway at Spring Creek

In Gordonsville, Meechai Padungsiriseth and Paveenuch Sritagul each shot a 4-under-par 68 after Monday’s opening round to lead the American Junior Golf Association’s Junior All-Star at Spring Creek.
Padungsiriseth of Bradenton, Fla., took a two-stroke lead in the boys division after the first day. Trevor Times of Williamsburg and Julian Taylor of Greenville, S.C. are tied for second after each posting rounds of 70.
Sritagul, a native of Bangkok, Thailand, sits alone atop the leaderboard in the girls division, with Ana Ruiz of Chihuahua, Mexico in second place, three strokes behind.
Play continues today at 7 a.m. at Spring Creek, with a cut following today’s round (boys- low 48 and ties, girls- low 18 and ties). The tournament, part of the Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy’s Junior All Star Series, will conclude Wednesday.
The AJGA is a nonprofit organization committed to helping its young members fulfill their dreams of obtaining a college scholarship through the game of golf. The organization is the largest of its kind, with an annual membership of close to 5,000 boys and girls ages 12-18.
The tournament field consists of 98 boys and 32 girls from the United States and abroad. AJGA alumni include Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Cristie Kerr and Pat Hurst, among many others.
