Kostelac takes region crown

Anthony Kostelac’s first cross country victory came at last week’s Commonwealth District race. His second came Thursday on his home course.
Albemarle’s cross country star ran 16:10 to capture the Northwest Region boys’ title.
“It’s one of the toughest courses, but I figured I had to be good on my home course,” Kostelac said.
Kostelac’s finish comes a year after he finished second to Mountain View’s Thomas Porter.
With Porter having graduated, Kostelac seized the opportunity for victory.
His finish helped the Patriots earn 76 points to place second in the team standings.
“It was really good,” Kostelac said.
Commonwealth District foe Mountain View won the boys’ title with 28 points.
Another one of Albemarle’s runners was all-region in the girls’ race.
Freshman Allison Huschke ran 19:49 to finish 13th.
“It was hard, but there was a lot of support,” Huschke said.
That support will likely continue during her week of training for the Nov. 14 Group AAA race at Great Meadow.
“It’s exciting,” she said.
The top four teams and top 15 individuals will advance to the state meet.
