Play On raises curtain on Neil Simon show

A father-daughter story is at the heart of Play On’s new production, which opens Thursday at Play On’s Theatre at Ix.

Neil Simon’s “I Ought to Be in Pictures” will open at 8 p.m. Thursday and run through Feb. 12.

Director Clinton Johnston’s cast includes Fox Acorn as Libby Tucker; Sean Michael McCord as Herb, her estranged father; and Camilla Curnow as Steffy, Herb’s girlfriend.

As the comedy unfolds, Libby appears in Hollywood on the doorstep of a father who’d walked out on his family in New York 16 years earlier to become a screenwriter.

Now she aspires to a movie industry career of her own, and she expects Herb to call on his connections to help her make her dreams come true. Steffy ends up as referee between father and daughter as old dreams and expectations come to the surface.

Performances are on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings and Sunday afternoons. Keep in mind when you’re making reservations that there will not be a performance on Feb. 5.

Tickets are $17 to $13, and Thursdays are on a pay–what-you-will basis. Learn more at PlayOnTheatre.org or 872-0184.
