McMillen releases CD during tonight's Southern show

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Ashley McMillen will release her new CD, “Now I Know,” during tonight’s show at the Southern Café and Music Hall.

Also performing will be Scott Tiernan and Shanna Hoar.

McMillen’s band features Rusty Speidel on guitar, Stuart Gunter on drums, Bahlmann Abbot on pedal steel , Johnathan Chance on bass and McMillen on acoustic guitar and vocals.

The West Virginia singer-songwriter plays her own country-inspired originals. In October, McMillen won the 2011 Songwriter’s Competition at Rapunzel’s Coffee and Books with her song “Now I Know.” “You Don’t Need a Man” was her first song to receive radio airplay, on WTJU.

McMillen’s musical journey began when, at age 8, she persuaded her parents to rent her a violin so she could play in her school orchestra. She also sang at church and family events, as well as in vocal competitions. Later, she taught herself to play guitar.

Pay $10 for a ticket-and-two-CD combo that includes McMillen’s and Tiernan’s albums, or $8 for admission to the show alone. Seating is limited, but listeners of all ages are welcome. Learn more at thesoutherncville.com or 977-5590.
