Filmmaker Guillermo del Toro has canceled his upcoming Virginia Film Festival appearance as a result of a schedule conflict.

Del Toro’s event — a Nov. 6 screening of his latest film, “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark” — will continue as scheduled, the film festival announced in a news release Friday.

Producer Mark Johnson, who’d already been scheduled to help present the film, will attend and will take part in a post-screening discussion with critic David Edelstein. Johnson is a University of Virginia alumnus.

The festival, set for Thursday through Nov. 7 at a variety of Charlottesville venues, will feature more than 100 films, plus parties, discussions and special events. Among the guests slated to appear are director, writer, producer, actor, author and film critic Peter Bogdanovich; John Radnor, star of the CBS comedy series “How I Met Your Mother,” who’ll present “happythankyoumoreplease,” a film he wrote, produced, directed and starred in; “Evan Almighty” director Tom Shadyac, who’ll present “:I Am,” his new documentary; and Vince Gilligan, creator of “Breaking Bad.”

Tickets can be purchased at www.virginiafilmfestival.org or 924-3376.
