A worker who was electrically shocked Thursday morning while working on scaffolding at a construction site near The Corner is being treated at the University of Virginia Medical Center for serious injuries, according to rescue personnel.

The man, whom authorities would not identify due to patient confidentiality laws, was working on a residential complex about 25 feet above the ground when he came in contact with power lines, officials said.

“He was electrocuted and incapacitated,” said Charlottesville Fire Department Battalion Commander Rich Jones. “Charlottesville firefighters and the Charlottesville-Albemarle Rescue Squad responded and firefighters reached him and performed an initial assessment of his injuries.”

Rich said firefighters then placed the man in a stretcher-like Stokes basket and carried him through the construction site and down to the street. The man was conscious and talking to emergency crews at the time of the rescue, Rich said.

CARS transported him to the hospital.
