Charlottesville police are investigating a sexual assault of a University of Virginia student that took place early Sunday morning on the Corner.
The assault took place in the 1500 block of University Avenue, Lt. Ronnie Roberts of the city police said Sunday. The victim was a 19-year-old UVa student, Roberts said.
An e-mail sent to the university community by UVa Police Chief Michael A. Gibson said the victim reported that a black male walked up to her and fondled her. The victim described the suspect as 5-feet 10-inches tall and wearing a black hoodie sweatshirt.
Roberts said that at this point there are no similarities to this recent incident and several other attacks on UVa students that were reported earlier this fall.
“There’s no similarities to the other cases,” Roberts said.
The incident is still under investigation. Residents with information are encouraged to call Crimestoppers at 977-4000 or the Charlottesville Police Department at 970-3280.
