Charlottesville police are investigating the Sunday morning forcible fondling of a University of Virginia student.
The student told police that she was walking near the 1100 block of Wertland Street just before 3 a.m. Sunday when a man approached her from behind, according to a UVa news release. The attacker put his hand up her skirt and fondled her, but ran away after the victim started kicking and screaming.
The release said the suspect was a white male between 20 and 30 years of age who was wearing dark pants and a black North Face jacket during the attack.
Since Sept. 17, several UVa students have reported being attacked on or near Grounds. One student told police she was walking near Memorial Gym on Oct. 18 when a man came up behind her, pulled up her skirt and fondled her. The incident ended in the woman screaming and the man running away.
City police didn’t immediately return a call seeking comment for this story.
Carlton William Arnold is facing robbery, abduction and other charges in connection with the Sept. 29 robbery of a UVa student. The student previously testified that a man came up behind her, demanded money and said he had a gun. The attacker eventually walked the student under Beta Bridge, where he touched her, and later left with cash after the woman raised her voice in public.
Arnold, who previously served prison time for killing a clerk in 1998 at the Stop-Inn Shell station on Ivy Road, has been incarcerated while his case works its way through city courts.
