Woman shot in yard was victim of target shooting gone astray, police say

» 0 Comments | Post a Comment

The 61-year-old Glenmore woman shot Sunday evening as she watered her flowers was the victim of target practice gone awry, according to Albemarle County police.

The announcement suggests that police believe they’ve confirmed one of their leading theories.

Detectives found a property off Richmond Road where several people were shooting at the time the victim was struck on nearby Darby Road, according to police. They were using a makeshift firing range, according to Lt. Shawn Schwertfeger.

Everyone who was at the shooting range cooperated with investigators, and officials aren’t charging anyone with a crime in the incident, according to Schwertfeger.
