A perfect headline: Daily Progress of April 10, front page, above the fold. "Deal brings relief, disgust"
Congratulations to your headline writer for the heading of your AP story concerning the 2010 budget agreement. But plenty was left out of the agreement — things like:
1. Loss of salary for congressman and senators during any future budgetary government shutdown;
2. Loss of salary for any administration executive who leaves Washington, DC, at any time during the leadup to a budgetary government shutdown;
3. Loss of salary for any congressman, senator or president any time the federal budget is not balanced;
4. Loss of salary for any congressman or senator who proposes an earmark;
5. Loss of salary for any congressman or senator who fails to completely read any introduced piece of legislation; and
6. Loss of congressional retirement pay for any congressman or senator who accepts a job with federal government lobbying firms.
Isn’t it time for Congress to get serious about future spending so that our armed forces volunteers don’t have to fret about their well-deserved paychecks? Congress holds all the power, but none of the hardships. That must change!
