The Piedmont Environmental Council announced Monday that county landowners protected 2,253 acres in 2010.
That increase brings the total amount of easement-protected land in the county to roughly 83,600 acres, which is about 17.5 percent of the land in Albemarle.
Easements can protect working farms and forests and are designed to preserved wildlife habitat, streams and rivers, historic sites and scenic views.
The biggest protection project in the county in 2010 was the 875-acre Viewmont Farm.
In all, 13 easements were donated and the Albemarle County Acquisition of Conservation Easements program purchased two. The two ACE easements totaled 330 acres.
