A Richmond man has been convicted on a charge of soliciting sex from a minor after being caught in a sting operation conducted on Craigslist, officials said Friday.

Shakir A. Moore, 24, was arrested on March 9 after he used email to contact an undercover officer whom he believed to be a 13-year-old girl, according to Louisa County Commonwealth’s Attorney Tom Garrett. Moore chatted online with the officer and arranged a meeting for sex, saying that he wanted to “be her first,” officials said. When he arrived at the rendezvous with condoms and candy, officials said, he was met by officers from jurisdictions across Central Virginia.

Moore is scheduled to be sentenced Aug. 29. The charge carries a maximum sentence of 30 years.

This is the first time investigators with Louisa CSI (Child Safety Initiative) used Craigslist, a popular online classifieds site, to catch a predator.
