It’s time to move forward into spring.
Daylight saving time begins at 2 a.m. Sunday. Clocks should be set ahead by one hour by that time.
State fire officials say it’s also the perfect time for residents to check their smoke alarms.
“A properly installed and maintained smoke alarm is the one thing in your home that can alert you and your family to a fire 24 hours a day, seven days a week,” said Mark Buff, spokesman with the Virginia Department of Fire Programs.
Fire officials say alarms should be tested on a monthly basis and the backup batteries replaced at least once a year. The smoke alarm itself should be replaced every eight to 10 years, Buff said.
