EPA overregulation is bad for U.S.

»  Comments | Post a Comment

I have become more and more concerned about all the regulations coming out of the Environmental Protection Agency. It appears to be making a full-scale assault on our economy.

Each week it seems the agency is promoting another new rule that causes concern for someone in business. This is at a time when costs are dramatically escalating for businesses and consumers.

One example of a harmful proposed rule involves electricity. Every business is heavily dependent on electricity.

The rule is designed to reduce particulate in the air. It will be costly for power plants to abide by that rule. The rule may have the effect of shutting down 30-70 gigabytes of electricity generation nationwide, if power companies find compliance too expensive and opt instead for reducing generation.

One gigawatt can power 750,000 homes.

Meanwhile, over the past several years, additional emissions controls have been introduced into the power generation fleet, which have reduced emissions, without government intervention.

Regulations such as the proposed particulate rule cause major problems. Plants will close, electricity rates will skyrocket and consumers will suffer. This all adds up to the proverbial train wreck.

It is time for Congress to exercise its constitutional authority and closely examine these regulations to determine their impact on our economy and the environment. It is time to call a halt to these aggressive regulations.
