Walmart clearly sees green in Orange County.
Otherwise the world’s largest retailer wouldn’t bother with finding for a new spot to locate a store after the rough sledding it had with Option A. That, of course, was property near the Wilderness Battlefield National Park on Route 3, a choice that set off a firestorm of opposition from historic preservationists, Civil War buffs and anti-growth elements.
With all sides geared up for battle, Walmart stood down earlier this year and promised to find a different spot in the Route 3 corridor to build its store. The new location lies just a few miles from the controversial battlefield, apparently sans controversy this time.
Did it really have to be this hard?
