Life is hard and unforgiving these days – I know – but into every life some sky must fall: I refer to mixed metaphors, which I collect, and U.S. Rep. Robert Hurt has a beauty in his May 24 letter to the editor:
To get out of the debt crisis, he writes, “we need to dig deep to get ourselves out of this hole.”
I collect these mixed metaphors and they add to my life. I certainly hope Representative Hurt won’t have to lie in any milk he might spill, or cry over any unmade beds!
If he does, as an engineer in Louisiana recently said of a fellow engineer at a distressed nuclear plant in Japan, I wouldn’t want to live in his shoes.
