The three Democratic nominees for Charlottesville City Council continued to hold fundraising advantages over their four independent opponents heading into the final weeks of campaigning, according to finance disclosures posted online by the Virginia Public Access Project.
Democrats Kathy Galvin and Satyendra Huja both reported raising $2,439 between Oct. 1 and Oct. 26, while Democrat Dede Smith raised $1,939. For the general election campaign, Galvin raised $4,729, Huja raised $4,377 and Smith raised $3,362.
Among independents Bob Fenwick, Brandon Collins, Scott Bandy and Andrew D. Williams, Fenwick comes closest to matching the Democrats in campaign cash, raising $867 in the latest period for a total of $2,994.
Collins raised $190 in the latest period for a total of $1,869; Bandy raised $185 in the latest period for a total of $665; and Williams reported no fundraising activity for the period, which leaves him with a total of $336.
The Democrats also had the most cash remaining on hand as of Oct. 26, with Huja reporting $3,728, Galvin reporting $3,175 and Smith reporting $2,775. Fenwick reported $516 on hand compared to $84 for Collins, $35 for Bandy and $21 for Williams.
The majority of the Democratic fundraising occurred prior to the party’s primary on Aug. 20. For the entire cycle spanning both the primary and general elections, Galvin raised $16,992, Smith raised $13,640 and Huja raised $12,966.
The general election is Nov. 8.
