Albemarle to hold meetings on school redistricting

Albemarle County Public Schools will hold two public meetings this week on redistricting at a pair of county elementary schools. Parents of students at Hollymead and Stony Point elementaries will have a chance to address a redistricting committee tonight and Thursday.

Hollymead’s public meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. today at Hollymead Elementary. Stony Point’s meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, also at the school in question.

According to acting county schools Chief Operating Officer Josh Davis, each meeting will begin with a presentation from staff. After the presentation, staff will entertain questions and comments from the audience.

Though the committee has done much of its work already, Davis said county staff will be listening for key concerns from the public.

“From what I’ve seen, we really take public comment very seriously here,” Davis said. “Public comment, I’ve seen it here before, can really turn the tide.”

The results of both meeting will be considered by the committee before final recommendations go before the School Board in February, Davis said.
