A demolition crew this morning tears down a blighted house at 704 Montrose Ave. in Charlottesville, bringing an end to the city's dispute with elderly homeowner Charles W. Rogers over the property he used to house books and other possessions. Rogers was given roughly 40 days to demolish the house himself, but when he failed to act, the city stepped in. The demolition of the house, which inspectors said contained termites, mold and failing floor systems, is expected to cost a little more than $10,000. Rogers will receive a bill for the costs, officials said.
