Kudos to Kathy Galvin!
When I moved here almost six years ago, I remember being asked a couple times where I lived and when I answered “Charlottesville,” I was quickly corrected and firmly dissuaded of my idea that I lived in Charlottesville. I was told I lived in Albemarle County.
While I must admit that I’ve never quite understood why a community of our size has to have two separate governments, infrastructures and identities, I can’t help but wonder whether there aren’t significant efficiencies to be gained by working together as one community.
So when city Councilor Kathy Galvin recommended that Charlottesville take a look at reversion, I was surprised to see how quickly everyone’s shorts got in a knot. It might not work, it might not be feasible and it certainly won’t fix anything immediately, but I agree with Kathy that we should at least talk about it.
I for one am not going to give up on my hope that the city and county can really become one community whether reversion works or not. Good for you, Kathy!
