Louisa teacher could win $10K to help school

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Marcy Pennella, a teacher at Louisa County’s earthquake-crippled Thomas Jefferson Elementary School, could win the school $10,000 in supplies and cash.

Pennella is one of the 10 finalists in Great American Financial Resources’ national contest to provide three classrooms a facelift. Teachers can win up to $5,000 to buy needed classroom supplies, plus an additional $5,000 prize for their school.

The public can vote once each day for Pennella’s plan at www.gaclassroommakeover.com through Feb. 29.

Pennella wants to replace warped and damaged student desks and chairs from her class and provide supplies to help students.

The school itself will need to be replaced because of extensive damage from the Aug. 23 quake, school officials have said. Students are currently being taught in trailers at the Trevilians Elementary School site.
