Food for the hungry

»  Comments | Post a Comment

In the footsteps of Nicole Muller, welcome Bridget “Molly” Folger.

Ms. Muller was a Western Albemarle High School student who founded a group to fight hunger that won national attention. The organization collected food from as far away as Alaska.

Ms. Folger is a CHS student who has founded a program — Scoring Goals to End Hunger — that is collecting money for the food bank. She is working to raise $10,000 to help fund a program that sends food home with hungry children at the end of the school day.

The community service project also is part of an online contest through which Ms. Folger could win a trip to the London Olympics.

Collecting $10,000 or collecting tens of thousands of pounds of food: Each is an impressive effort. Impressive, too, are the confidence and ability these students have shown. They set lofty goals — and go for them.

Thumbs up for Bridget Folger, trying to ease hunger for area schoolchildren.
