Police: UVa student robbed at gunpoint

A 19-year-old University of Virginia student was robbed at gunpoint Saturday morning in the 1600 block of University Avenue after taking money out of an ATM, according to police.

Charlottesville police said the male victim was approached by an African-American male wearing baggy blue jeans and a maroon shirt around 1:15 a.m. The suspect pulled a handgun and took the victim’s wallet before fleeing north on University Avenue, police said.

No further description of the suspect is available. Anyone with knowledge of the situation is urged to call Crimstoppers at 977-4000.
