A Pulitzer Prize-winning Wall Street Journal correspondent will be the new chairman of the Forum Program of the Miller Center of Public Affairs at the University of Virginia.

Douglas A. Blackmon will take the post following a national search. Blackmon is a senior national correspondent for the paper and author of a book on the treatment of blacks in America from the Civil War to World War II.

Blackmon will join the center full-time in February, but will continue reporting, including serving as a contributing editor of The Washington Post.

Blackmon will make his debut at a forum at the Miller Center on Martin Luther King Day.

“We are truly delighted Doug will be joining the Miller Center,” said former Gov. Gerald L. Baliles, director and CEO of the center, in a news release.

“Since the center’s founding in 1975, the forum program has served as a cornerstone of our work and public outreach. Today, the forum reaches a national audience on PBS, and with Doug, we will have one of the nation’s best and most respected journalists leading the conversation,” Baliles said.
