Officers give time to worthy cause

» 0 Comments | Post a Comment

On April 18, the Virginia Institute of Autism held its annual Run for Autism 5K. Over the past five years, this event has grown from just over 100 participants, raising $5,000, to one of the top 10 foot races in Charlottesville, with nearly 500 participants raising $50,000. Proceeds support education and outreach for area families and their children with autism.

This event would not happen without the tremendous support we receive from our community. I want to particularly commend the unsung heroes of the Albemarle County Sheriff’s Department who volunteer their off-duty time to come out and help with the race. This year, we had seven officers and patrol cars to help with traffic control and safety.

We would like to thank Sheriff Chip Harding and these exemplary officers for contributing their time to support an important cause.

On behalf of my family, and especially my son Cole, whose life is forever changed because of VIA’s services, I am deeply grateful.
