Drive to benefit people, dogs

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Local authorities are teaming up to collect food for the hungry and blankets for caged canines this holiday season.

Charlottesville’s government is working with the Charlottesville-Albemarle Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank.

Officials are accepting new or used blankets for the SPCA’s dogs. Last year the effort netted 600 blankets, and this year’s target is 750.

The blankets keep the dogs from having to sleep on concrete floors.

Donations of all types are being accepted beginning Monday in the front lobby of City Hall, the police department lobby, neighborhood development services lobby and the city manager’s office.

Food is also being accepted at ACAC.

Blankets are also being accepted at the SPCA on Berkmar Drive, Purring at Pantops and Pampered Pets.

Donations will be taken until the end of the year.
