Those going to a movie at the Regal Seminole Square Cinema 4 in Charlottesville might want to wear some extra layers.
The heating in the building’s theaters has gone out, and the theater’s management is tight-lipped about when it might be fixed. Theater manager Josh Anderson said he could not comment on the situation.
“We’re hoping to get the repairs done soon,” he said, declining to elaborate on how long the heat had not been operational. “That’s what I’m telling our customers.”
The theater has posted a sign in its box office window telling customers about the lack of heating and apologizing for the inconvenience.
Regal Entertainment Group has plans to expand and upgrade the four-screen movie theater. Earlier this year, the company said it intends to add five new screens, digital projection, stadium seating in every auditorium, new high-back recliner seats, a new lobby, a new entrance, new restrooms and more. The expanded theater would be called Regal Seminole Trail Stadium 9.
Yet according to the most recent drawings, the new theater would sit right in the path of the future Hillsdale Drive Extended, which is to be built between Hydraulic Road and Greenbrier Drive. City officials have said that it would be necessary to obtain Regal’s land before moving forward with the $30.5 million road.
Regal’s expansion plans for the Seminole Square theater will increase its size from 26,389 square feet to roughly 43,000.
Russ Nunley, Regal’s vice president for marketing and communications, could not be reached for comment Friday.
Though the atmosphere is chillier than usual, area residents have still been floating in and out of the four-screen theater. Orange County resident Linda Dent, still sporting her jacket and winter cap, decided to watch a 3 p.m. showing of “The Princess and the Frog” on Friday.
She said the heating situation didn’t bother her enough to miss out on the show.
“It’s already cold anyway,” Dent said.
