An 18-year-old man who killed a Gordonsville woman in 2006 was sentenced this morning to life in prison.
Today in Charlottesville’s federal court, U.S. District Judge Norman K. Moon sentenced Gary Christopher Johnson to life in prison on a murder charge, 10 years on a firearm charge and 20 years on cocaine charges.
Johnson was convicted of killing 22-year-old Katherine Danielle “Dani” Howard. On Feb. 22, 2006, authorities said Howard tried to get Johnson and co-defendant Justin Marcel Harris to pull over after she saw them driving her van without her permission.
Johnson shot Howard several times after they both pulled over. Johnson, who was Howard’s boyfriend’s cousin, was accused of stealing drugs, money and guns from the couple’s home before leaving in Howard’s vehicle.
Johnson was convicted in December after a jury trial of a charge equivalent to first-degree murder, possession of a stolen firearm, conspiracy to possess cocaine with the intent to distribute and possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute.
Michael Howard, the victim’s older brother, said after court that his family was pleased with the judge’s sentence.
