Charlottesville schools will host a community engagement workshop this week to address the use of school facilities and grade reconfiguration options.
The workshop — which will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Charlottesville High School — follows the division’s efficiency review that was completed in January.
Included in the report was a recommendation that the division should close one of its elementary schools to become more efficient in its use of facilities as enrollment declines.
The public is encouraged to attend. The five options that will be discussed are:
-- leave the division as is;
-- close one elementary school;
-- have six elementary schools, two middle schools and one high school;
-- have six elementary schools, one middle school and one high school; and
-- other possibilities.
The workshop this month and another in September will both specifically discuss the use of school facilities and grade reconfiguration options.
Other meetings are being scheduled with division staff and in local community centers. Schedules and updates will be posted on http://www.charlottesville
schools.org.
The division already has held one workshop to broadly address the review’s recommendations. Many participants at the event were most concerned about the potential closing of a school.
