Fluvanna County will receive more than $1.4 million from the $787 billion economic stimulus package to build a new fire station near Fork Union.
The station, which will house the Fork Union Company of the Fluvanna County Volunteer Fire Co., will be located off U.S. 15 adjacent to Fluvanna’s parks and recreation department.
U.S. Rep. Tom Perriello, D-Ivy, announced the grant. The project, he said, is expected to keep 100 people employed and benefit local building supply companies.
“These Recovery Act funds will strengthen the fire department’s preparedness and improve emergency response in Fluvanna County, in addition to boosting the local economy and keeping 100 people employed,” he said in a release.
Fluvanna’s Board of Supervisors must approve the award and authorize the county to seek bids on the project.
The project’s price tag is projected to be $1.8 million. Fluvanna County is expected to chip in the balance remaining after the stimulus money.
