Michael McPadden, one of seven Republicans running for a chance to challenge U.S. Rep. Tom Perriello, D-Ivy, received $29,556 in campaign contributions during the first three months of 2010.
McPadden, an airline pilot from North Garden, raised the third-highest amount of cash among the GOP candidates running in the June 8 primary election, according to his campaign finance report filed late Thursday with the Federal Election Commission.
McPadden’s report also shows that he loaned his campaign more than $200,000 of his own money. His campaign account had a balance of $205,851 as of March 31.
Sen. Robert Hurt, R-Chatham, led the crowded GOP field with $101,110 worth of donations.
Hurt’s total was a bit less than the $105,000 his campaign told The Daily Progress in an interview Thursday evening for a story that appeared Friday.
Behind Hurt, Ivy resident and private real estate investor Laurence Verga raised the second highest total for the quarter with $31,124 in contributions.
Feda Kidd Morton, a biology teacher and GOP activist from Fluvanna County, said in an interview that she raised $30,000 during the first quarter. Morton’s report, however, had not been posted by the FEC as of Friday afternoon.
Albemarle County Supervisor Kenneth C. Boyd collected $19,305 in campaign contributions, according to his report.
Moneta real estate developer Jim McKelvey brought in $13,750.
Ron Ferrin, a businessman from Campbell County, also did not have a report available with the FEC as of Friday afternoon. Ferrin did not return a call for comment Thursday.
Perriello, a freshman Democrat, raised far more in the first quarter than all of his potential GOP opponents combined.
Perriello raised $605,911 between Jan. 1 and March 31, making it Perriello’s most successful fundraising quarter of his political career.
