'Eight years is plenty': Brown won't seek re-election to council

City Councilor David Brown has confirmed that he will not seek a third term to sit on the five-member body.

Brown initially made the remark about not running for another four-year term at a council work session Monday.

“Eight years is plenty for me,” he said in an interview. “I never thought I would do it for 12 years. That’s just a really long time.”

Brown would have been up for re-election in November 2011. Councilors Holly Edwards and Satyendra Huja’s seats will also be up for grabs during that election. Both of them were first elected in 2007 and said Tuesday that they had not decided if they would seek second terms.

Brown was elected to the council in 2004, when local elections were still held in the spring. He served as mayor for close to four years, being selected for the title right after he was elected to his first term.
