Today Martin Horn will host a rededication of its office to mark the building’s status as the first LEED-certified project in Central Virginia under the LEED for Existing Buildings program.
The general contractor has garnered a silver certification from the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design program, which certifies that buildings meet environmental friendliness standards.
U.S. Rep. Tom Perriello, D-Ivy, will deliver today’s keynote address. Other local luminaries are expected to attend.
“As a general contractor, Martin Horn believes that sustainable building practices are important, so it was an easy jump for us to go from feeling that we needed to do more to just doing more. From using a Green cleaning service and making sustainable purchasing our standard to improving our Energy Star score and harvesting rain water, it’s been rewarding to not only make sure our side of the street is clean but also to see our employees take pride and assurance in all the LEED for Existing Buildings efforts that contribute to the greening of our building,” Ted Horn, vice president of Martin Horn, said in a news release.
The rededication will be held at 2 p.m.
