Del. David J. Toscano, D-Charlottesville, has started a Web site designed to solicit thoughts from Charlottesville and Albemarle County residents on how the localities can better collaborate in the years ahead.
The site, “Community Voices: Charlottesville and Albemarle Together,” can be found at http://city-county.blogspot.com.
Relations between the city and county have grown tense because of a proposed state budget amendment that would take $2.8 million in state education from Charlottesville and give it to Albemarle in fiscal 2012. The amendment was introduced by Del. Rob Bell, R-Albemarle County, and it seeks to account for the revenue-sharing agreement that went into effect in 1982.
The City Council, Albemarle County Board of Supervisors and members of both school boards have agreed to meet to discuss future collaboration on April 24. Toscano said that residents could become involved by leaving comments on the Web site, and that could help structure the April meeting and shape future discussions.
