The University of Virginia has offered admission to 6,907 of the record-breaking 22,520 applicants to be part of this fall’s incoming class. There are approximately 3,240 actual open spots.

There were 7,964 applicants from Virginia, while 14,652 applications came from outside the state. Of these, 3,380 Virginians were offered admission, while 3,527 out-of-state applicants were offered admission.

The figures, UVa officials said, are on pace to maintain the university’s usual ratio of 69 percent in-state enrollment.

Of the applicants offered admission, 93.8 percent were ranked in the top 10 percent of their graduating class. Their average combined SAT verbal and math score was 10 points higher than the previous year’s average.

UVa’s School of Nursing and the School of Engineering and Applied Science saw higher levels of applicants than last year.

The School of Nursing saw a 22 percent increase in applications, with fewer than 20 percent being offered admission. Engineering applications jumped by 12 percent over last year.
