For the second time in a year, former Charlottesville High standout Andrea Barbour has left the women’s basketball team at Virginia Tech.
This time, however, it appears that she will not be coming back.
Beth Dunkenberger, the Hokies’ coach, announced the move Wednesday through a press release.
“During recent meetings with Andrea Barbour, we have decided that it would be best for Andrea to pursue other opportunities,” Dunkenberger said. “Andrea has had some great moments here at Virginia Tech, and we wish her well in the future.”
Barbour played in 26 games last year at Virginia Tech as a freshman, averaging 15 points per game. She was voted onto the ACC All-Freshman team.
In her stellar career at CHS, Barbour averaged 22.4 points, 9.4 rebounds and 4.2 steals per game and was the VHSL Group AA player of the year in 2007. She was also a three-time all-state performer.
Attempts to reach Barbour were unsuccessful.
Barbour would be forced to sit out one full academic year if she were to transfer to another Division I program outside of the ACC.
